Each moon cycle, we honour a soul who embodies the essence of Ritual.

She is a woman who reminds us that pleasure can be sacred, and storytelling—revolutionary.

Welcome to our living altar of inspiration, where we honour the muses who stir something deep within.

This month, we’re celebrating local author Bridie Charles and the release of the third book in her spicy, soul-stirring trilogy.

Romancing the smallest parts of our day—savouring slow mornings, showing up heart-first, and letting ourselves get lost in a story—can feel like quiet rebellion in a world that glorifies hustle.

But softness is strength. Sensuality is power. And this month’s muse? She embodies both.

How did you get into writing?

Writing was something I always enjoyed when I was young, and I tapped back into that in 2023 after finding my way back to reading during the pandemic.

I thought I couldn’t be the worst writer out there, but I didn’t realise at the time just how much I would fall in love with the craft and the wonder of creating stories.

which characters do you draw inspiration from for yourself or your characters in your book?

I find inspiration for my characters all around me. Every character I write has a little piece of myself in them (and I kind of love knowing that people that know me might find those things)

But I also draw from those I love, or strangers I meet. Little pieces of everyone I’ve met fall into place to create the characters in my stories.

what are smut novels?

Smut novels are generally romance novels that are sexually explicit, and often openly highlight women’s sexual desires.

how do you believe the rise in romance novels has come about? And why are they significant in your world?

I think the rise in contemporary romance novels stems from women realising that they can find themselves or their desires represented on the page, and people are beginning to talk about that. They shine a light on women’s wants/desires in a way that isn’t shameful. It’s sexy and fun, and freeing. And I think that’s something really important, and something worth celebrating.

I also think that romance books give people a sense of hope and comfort, that even though the main character might have gone through some hard times, they can still find love and find their happy ending. (Most of the time anyway)

where do you see your writing taking you?

I hope that one day my writing could take me all over the world. Travelling to meet readers is a dream of mine. I’d love to make a career out of this, but I think it’ll take a little while before I hit that point.

which sorts of rituals do you incorporate in your day that help you as a writer?

My best writing days begin with a moment for myself. I love grounding myself in the day with a minute outside, taking the time to bask in the morning sun or let the wind brush across my face before I settle in behind my screen.

Routine and ritual keeps me from letting the day slip away from me; whether it’s following my skincare routine or having a nourishing breakfast, I have to start my day strong if I want inspiration to flow.

what does girlhood teach you about desire?

girlhood teaches me that desire is okay. That it is fun and something that we can all connect through. Whether our desires are similar or entirely different, we all have them. And we can all sit around and talk about them if we feel comfortable enough in our girlhood to do that.

when do you feel most in your power?

I feel most in my power when I tap into my femininity. When I let it seep from my pores and radiate off of me. I love being a woman and being feminine, and I love sharing that feeling with other women.
